**An open mat is an open training session at which there is no organised instruction although instructors or coaches will be in attendance. At these sessions you are free to do as you wish (Spar, drill techniques or work on areas of you game where you are encountering problems). Although there is no organised lesson it is encouraged that all in attendance work in a cooperative manner and learn from each other so if you are experiencing issues with any position or technique never be afraid to ask a higher grade or someone more experienced than you.
